Why Are Anabolic Steroids Popular Among Athletes and Bodybuilders

Our body is made-up of various hormones that have respective purpose which facilitates the different functions of the organs inside our body. Hormones, by definition are chemical messengers made in a gland or tissue that start, stop, or otherwise organize activity in some other tissue. An example of which is serotonin which is produced in the digestive track that controls our mood, appetite and sleep. Our pineal gland also produces melatonin hormone that functions as antioxidant and sleep control. Too much or too little of a hormone can cause illness. Such is the case of DHEA hormone that is produced in the adrenal gland. DHEA is an acronym for dehydroepiandrosterone, an endogenous hormone that is most abundant in our body during adolescents and childhood but levels of during and after middle age. It’s the only hormone that declines with age in both men and women. DHEA carry-out three important functions. DHEA helps in maintaining normal sex hormone level, aids in increasing the production of antioxidant enzymes in the liver and counteracts the damaging effects of stress. Research indicates anabolic steroids  therapeutic effects in many conditions including diabetes, obesity, multiple sclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Advocates, further claim that DHEA supplements can increase energy and libido, preserve muscle, improve mood, strengthen the immune system and prevent cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
