Anabolic Steroids in Today's World

Anabolic steroids, also known as anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are a type of synthetic hormone. This synthetic hormone is closely related to the male hormone, testosterone. Anabolic steroids aid in the development of male characteristics by promoting protein synthesis, building up of muscle mass, and strength gain. These steroids help increase muscle mass in two ways. First, they increase protein production and second they reduce muscle catabolism by interrupting the effects of cortisol on the body. Today, anabolic steroids are used to treat a wide variety of medical conditions including anemia, delayed puberty, hypogonadism, and muscle waisting diseases like cancer and AIDS. However, anabolic steroids are also abused. These steroids are illegal in professional sports because they provide an unfair advantage to the user. Many athletes have tested positive for anabolic steroids and in turn, have faced serious consequences including fines, public ridicule and even being banned from sports. http://www.steroidsources.com/
